Judge Keith Washburn has spent his life protecting and serving the people of Chillicothe with integrity, discipline, and an unwavering respect for the law. From his early years in the U.S. Army, to decades in law enforcement, to the courtroom as a practicing attorney and now as Judge of the Chillicothe Municipal Court, Keith’s entire career has been rooted in service to others.
Law Enforcement Leadership
Keith began his career in 1995 with the Chillicothe Police Department, where he served with distinction for over 25 years. He rose through the ranks to become Chief of Police, earning the respect of both his peers and the public for his steady leadership and commitment to public safety.
Legal Experience
After retiring from law enforcement, Keith earned his Juris Doctorate from Capital University Law School and opened the Washburn Law Office, where he practiced as a private attorney. He went on to serve as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Jackson County, working to hold offenders accountable and protect victims’ rights. He later served as Staff Attorney for the Fraternal Order of Police Ohio Labor Council, representing law enforcement professionals across Ohio in labor and legal matters.
Now Serving as Municipal Court Judge
In 2025, Keith Washburn was appointed by Governor Mike DeWine to serve as Judge of the Chillicothe Municipal Court, filling the unexpired term of a retiring judge. With his unique blend of legal experience and leadership in law enforcement, Judge Washburn brings a balanced, steady, and fair approach to the bench. He is now running to retain his seat in the November 2025 election.
Military and Education Background
Keith is a proud U.S. Army veteran, having served as an Intelligence Analyst Specialist in the 4th Infantry Division from 1990 to 1993. He holds an Associate’s Degree in Law Enforcement Technology and a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Ohio University, laying the academic groundwork for a lifetime of public service.

A lifelong resident of Chillicothe, Keith and his wife have built their life here, raising their family with strong community values. His deep local roots keep him grounded in the needs of the people he serves every day from the bench.
